The Assistant Director of Pharmacy directly and indirectly supervises the pharmacists and technicians to assure safe, efficient, appropriate and effective delivery of pharmaceutical services throughout the institution. The Assistant Director assists the Director of Pharmacy Services in developing competence assessment programs that ensure all pharmacy staff perform all duties and responsibilities with utmost efficiency and safety; as well as comply with all applicable policies, procedures and standards of the hospital. Duties and responsibilities should be performed in a manner consistent with the Bon Secours Charity Health System mission and values.
Coordinates and directs all day-to-day operations of the Pharmacy Department. Assists the Director of Pharmacy with planning, budget preparation, inventory and cost control. Works with Revenue Integrity to ensure that the hospital is being properly reimbursed for high cost medications being dispensed in the outpatient infusion centers. Optimizes using the 340B Purchasing Program to lower medication costs for the hospital and participates in auditing records to ensure compliance with the 340B Purchasing Program. Utilizes and maximizes automated dispensing machines. Assists the Director of Pharmacy to ensure regulatory compliance for the ordering and dispensing controlled substances for the hospital. Completes quality assurance auditing as required. Interviews and assists in hiring prospective Pharmacy Staff employees. Ensures preparation of monthly work schedules for all Pharmacy Department employees. Assists the Director of Pharmacy in developing policies and procedures. Participates in Clinical meetings as directed by the Director of Pharmacy. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years working as a staff pharmacist in a hospital setting. Strong planning, prioritizing and organizational skills.
Bachelor of Science required, Masters or Doctorate in Pharmacy preferred.
Licenses / Certifications:
New York State license
