Summary:

The NPD practitioner, under the direction & collaboration of the System Director of Professional Development & Education, influences professional role competence and professional growth of learners in a variety of clinical settings in acute care facilities. The NPD practitioner supports and encourages lifelong learning and functions in a variety of roles i.e. change agent, mentor, leader, learning facilitator, champion for scientific inquiry, advocate for specialty, and partner for practice transitions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: orientation, competency management, education, role development, collaborative partnerships, research/evidence-based practice/quality (Association of Nursing Professional Development, 2016).

Education:

BSN required; MSN, MBA,or MA in Nursing Education Preferred. If does not have a Master’s degree, must be currently enrolled in a Master in Nursing, business or health-related field program to be completed within 5 years. Qualifications: Licensed & currently registered as a professional nurse in NY State. Maintains current BLS certification and specialty certification i.e. ACLS, PALS, NRP as applicable. American Heart Association Basic Life Support Instructor Preferred. Must obtain instructor status within 1 year. NPD practitioners responsible for community hospital and/or specialty areas must obtain ACLS, PALS, NRP at the discretion of the Department Director. Certification in Nursing Professional Development is desired, provided through American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).Should be obtained within 3 years of NPD experience. Clinical specialty certification is preferred.

Experience:

Recent clinical experience in an acute care facility. Three to five years relevant experience in clinical setting. Teaching experience. Basic computer skills in Microsoft suite required.
