Job Details:

The Lab Assistant has knowledge of laboratory practices, specimen integrity & stability, federal and state requirements for laboratory operations, and applicable accreditation standards. Ability to operate laboratory centrifuges, perform a variety of blood collection techniques including venous and capillary collections.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Receives specimens, place orders, add test, delete test, spin down, separate and distribute specimens to the proper departments. 

• Prepares specimen to send to reference labs. 

• Answers telephone calls from unit Nurses, Internal/External Physicians, and their concerns regarding specimen problems.

 • Complete all duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Experience: 1 years of phlebotomy experience preferred. 

Education: High-school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor degree in Business or IT related field preferred. 

Licenses / Certifications: 

 NHA, ASCP, or equivalent certification in lieu of experience required.

Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
