Job Details:
The Lead Clinical Lab Technologist supervises Laboratory staff and operations to ensure that patient testing occurs in a timely and satisfactory manner. This position is responsible for workflow technical and patient issues, acts as a technical consultant for technical and patient issues, and coordinates lab instruments and maintenance. The lead technologist functions as a testing technologist for the majority of the time. The testing menu for this facility is limited to general chemistry and general hematology.
Responsibilities:
- Performs testing and accurately results and reports per regulatory standards.
- Complies with safety standards.
- Organizes, plans, and directs operational processes, staff scheduling, workflow, human resource issues, and staff development; oversees the performance and quality improvement initiatives for areas of responsibility.
- Develop, establish, and ensure implementation of procedures.
- Understands and complies with regulatory standards.
- Performs Quality Control tasks.
- Troubleshoots as necessary.
- Performs proficiency testing and schedules other technologists for proficiency testing as per regulatory standards.
- Ensures the daily review of patient test results and quality reports.
- Ensures and maintains adequate supplies and reagents.
- Ensures the performance of linearity studies, correlations and routine and emergency maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and methodologies as per regulatory standards.
- Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience: Minimum of 6 years of experience as Clinical Lab Technologist required. Computer skills to include word processing and spread sheets using Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.
Licenses / Certifications: NY State Education Department license a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required; National registration (NCA/ASCP) preferred.
Other: Leadership skills in a customer-oriented environment preferred.
