Job Summary:

The Department of Surgery at Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) is seeking a Trauma Medical Director/Associate Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery/Associate Director of the Department of Surgery for the HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley Hospital (HAHV), a 315-bed healthcare system comprising HealthAlliance Hospital – Mary’s Avenue Campus, HealthAlliance Hospital – Broadway Campus in Kingston, NY, and Margaretville Hospital, a 15-bed critical access hospital in Margaretville, NY, which serves Delaware, Greene, Ulster and Schoharie counties. The new Mary’s Ave campus houses all the acute care beds in Kingston. The renovated campus opened in December 2022 after a $113M expansion and enhancement project with brand-new facilities for emergency medicine, intensive care units, interventional radiology, and a new cardiac catheterization laboratory that hosts a PCI and EP program. In addition, there are state-of-the-art advanced imaging capabilities with cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and full cardiac CT angiography, including FFR. HAHV Hospital has been awarded provisional designation as a Level III Trauma Center by New York State and is supported by the WMCHealth Trauma Consortium which consists of five trauma centers spanning Level I (adult and pediatric), Level II and Level III trauma centers across the network. WMCHealth is the leader in trauma care across the Hudson Valley with an integrated approach to trauma care across all of its trauma centers. The trauma service at HAHV is supported by a full-time staff of trauma surgeons, physician assistants, a trauma program manager, a robust quality and performance improvement infrastructure, and expert subspecialty care that encompasses advanced Orthopedic Surgery, 24/7 Radiology services, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology and Perioperative Services. The Trauma Medical Director/Associate Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery/Associate Director of the Department of Surgery is the Trauma Surgeon who will be assigned by the hospital executive leadership and the Department of Surgery to lead the multidisciplinary activities of the Trauma Program and to lead the operational aspects of General Surgery by growing the surgical programs. The role of the Trauma Medical Director/Associate Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery/Associate Director of the Department of Surgery will be to pursue and continuously maintain the full development of the trauma center in terms of quality of care, volume, scope of services, cost-effectiveness and maintenance of verification by the American College of Surgeons and regulatory agencies. Additionally, the Trauma Medical Director/Associate Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery/Associate Director of the Department of Surgery will also organize and manage the overall physician/surgeon component of the trauma and surgical services to include trainee education and research.

Responsibilities:

Requirements / Qualifications:
  • MD, DO, or equivalent degree
  • Board Certification in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
  • Completed Fellowship in Trauma or Acute Care Surgery/Surgical Critical Care
  • Eligible for a New York State Medical License
  • Excellent administrative and interpersonal skills
